Benefits of the Revitalization Project
Threefold Benefits of the Project:
1) Aesthetic and Accessibility
- Better views
- Cleaner water, no more algae blooms
- Safer shorelines
- Canoeing, kayaking, paddle boarding, fishing and swimming
- Better and safer driving sightlines around corners
- Benches, picnic tables and other amenities may be added if funds allow.
- Early discussions about bring back the dormant Ice Cream Social community event have occurred.
2) Environment
- Cleaner water in our lake as well as further downstream in Sorenson Creek, Pike River and Lake Michigan.
- Healthier water for wildlife such as waterfowl and turtles.
- Fish stocking may happen as early as 2026, funding permitting.
- Better grading means better erosion control and greater access.
- Native plants filter runoff, attract pollinators and have deep roots.
- Native plants are hardy and flourish in this climate and therefore are very appropriate choices.
- Stormwater runoff inlets were fixed during construction, reducing costs further out.
- Removing 50+ years of unwanted organic material is huge!
- Invasive species have been removed and remediated.
- Aeration should not be needed, but can be added later. One family added a fountain for fun and aeration too.
3) Economic
- Home values and home marketability in the area will rise.
- We have strong, capable partners who want to help us efficiently implement our Revitalization Plan. Their support and knowledge are invaluable. We are not "winging it."
- The project costs would only increase in time. This problem would not solve itself. We have a lot of experience wishing it away. So we acted. While the costs per family in the HOA was very high, these investments will pay off over time.
- Grant writing may reduce our costs for future amenities.
- Outreach to family and organizations outside our HOA may increase our membership and allow others to show their appreciation of our lake. Neighbors, runners and dog-walkers have expressed interest in supporting the cause by becoming a Friend of the Pleasant Valley Lake.
